Cha (Zha) style Kung Fu
Cha style Kung FuCha Boxing is the quintessential Northern Kung Fu style. Cha is a branch of Jiao Men or Muslim style Kung Fu. Famous for centuries due to its relative purity—not to mention great beauty—Cha is one of China's best beloved Long Fists. In fact, Cha was taken as the basis of Contemporary Wushu mandatory routines. It is pure, graceful and sophisticated.

Zha Quan XiLie Zhi Yi. A good introduction to the Cha (Zha) Style. While it is one of the most popular and influential styles in China it is generally under-represented among our DVDs.

A key style for Long Fist Boxing practice, in part, because it was restricted to the Muslim people in China for centuries and therefore preserved the vital essence of their Kung Fu. It starts at the bottom with how to stand in a horse and works from there to a VERY extended Tan Tui practice at just about full speed. Breakdowns follow so silently that instruction is almost unnecessary. Next comes a fascinating set halfway between basics and form called Ten Road Beating Hammers somewhat akin to a Tan Tui complete with angular rather than linear footwork and many kicks and turns accompanied by jazzy background music. There is next a description of throwing fists and palms in the Cha style simple enough for you to imitate and practice. Next is a pretty impressive (though somewhat overextended ) demonstrating of Hua Bu Chao Walking the Slippery Path with some extreme kicks and balance positions beautifully performed.

The great thing to come away with here is the validation of the Cha method which has always been described as building logically on combinations somewhat in the manner of Arabic poetry. Here it is shown as we progress through Tan Tui into more and more precise and difficult variations which can obviously and easily bolster and reinforce one another. This DVD also comes with a BOOKLET on the Cha Style (in Chinese).

Zha Quan XiLie Zhi Erh. The introduction to the Cha (Zha) Style continues. This DVD is on probably the most famous of all Cha forms (barring Tan Tui), Road #4. Instructor Xu, in his mid-sixties, is not adverse to getting in there himself to demonstrate the exact form of this famous set. His assistant—strong, limber and well-trained—gives a wide open and winning performance embodying the clear, heroic and upright style of the Cha system. A few applications just to show points in the form, but even these are well done. Remember, these two are in Chinese only.
