SUN Style Taijiquan Sun Lu Tang is the name of one of the 20th centuries most famous Chinese martial artists. A student of some of the greatest martial artists of his era Sun was able to acquire substantial skills in Bagua, Xing Yi and Taiji (Tai Chi). From his wide studies he developed his own style of Taiji which has taken it's permanent place among the other major forms. Much of our instructional information on this page comes from Sun's daughter, Sun Jian Yun, herself and either other members of the family or very close students. Though this page is essentially for Taiji we have included other aspects of Sun's significant achievement . Click on pictures to see larger versions.

VCD#1640 Sun Jian Yun: daughter of Sun Lu Tang About an hour , See Main VCD page for prices, Here is a documentary on the work of Sun Jian Yun, the daughter of Sun Lu Tang, one of the most famous martial artists of the twentieth century. Interspersed with interviews with her students are photographs of herself and her father. There are also demonstrations by Sun of her Linked Fist Xing Yi, Sun Tai Chi Long Set, Bagua Sword. The Bagua sword, despite her age, is particularly nice. There is also an underexposed but valuable collector’s item of Sun much younger performing the Long set of Tai Chi at a tournament.

NEW!! VCD#1644 Taiji for Health Lectures Double Disk, See Main VCD page for prices, This covers the work of two top Taiji instructors: Sun Yong Tian and Men Hui Feng. Sun is a third generation inheritor of the Sun style. He is vice-chair of the Beijing Martial Arts association and standing vice-president of the Sun Taiji Research Institute. Men is a long time practitioner with experience in Baji, Fan Zi, and Taiji. Note that this series of VCDs is essentially what it says, lectures. There's definitely some demonstration but both teachers are illustrating one lecture each on the benefits of Taiji for health. There are extensive shots of each of them performing the Sun Taiji but for the bulk of the disks a knowledge of Chinese would help. Double Disk.

The first disk is almost entirely filmed at tournaments showing a wide variety of Sun style practitoners entering all sorts of competition levels. The style seems strong and lively with many people giving elegant performances . The next disk is of more historical interest. It contains many things: ongoing narration by teacher Zhou Shi Qin; examples of Sun Jian Yun performing sets as well as other players; instructional sections of Sun Yong Tian; backgroun information on Sun Cun Zhou; with comments by Cheng Bing Jun; information on Sun Shu Rong, and other performances such as some early footage of Sun Jian Yun performing. VCD#25 Xing Yi Boxing Survey of the Sun Style About an hour, see Main VCD for prices, CHINESE ONLY SUN JIAN-YUN, the daughter of the very famous martial artist and writer, Sun Lu-Tang leads this demonstration tape of the Sun Style. Though the cover lists Sun T'ai Chi there is more here than that. This is not an instruction VCD but starts with a performance of Sun T'ai Chi by Sun Jian-Yun, herself an "old Shihfu". Other students and family members help demonstrate T'ai Chi, Sun Style Ba Gua Partner Sword practice, Sun Style Hsing Yi Fist Set, and a rather nice Sun style Xing Yi sword. Little talking but a lot about the Sun style for the interested student.

VCD#27 Sun style Sun Sword About an hour, see Main VCD for prices, CHINESE ONLY Sun Style sword demonstrated and taught by Sun Lu Tang's own daughter - Sun JianYun. She's now a very old lady, but what a historical document! Complete demonstration of the Sun Style straight sword where not only T'ai Chi but the flavor of Sun other major styles: BaGua and Xing Yi are retained. Further demonstrated and broken down by another member of the Sun family style.

VCD#30 Sun Style Sun Long SET Double VCDs, see Main VCD for prices, CHINESE ONLY This is a double VCD with over two hours of performance. Here Sun Lu Tang's own daughter demonstrates the elements and specifics of Sun Style T'ai Chi. She exhaustively goes over each move and with the help of a student shows proper form and execution. Though bent with the years - her life in China has been a hard one - she shows the resilience and true spirit of her family art. For those interested in one of the acknowledged "Five Family Styles" of T'ai Chi, here's the source. Double VCD.
