Hung Gar Style Kung Fu
The famous form Hung Gar is said to come from the Qing Dynasty and to have originated with Hong Xi Guan a student of Shaolin stylist, Xing Yin. As legend goes Hong escaped to GuangDong and hid on a Yue Opera boat with the performers. The boat was painted red, a HONG CHUAN. He taught the opera actors martial arts while he was there and also developed the deep, stable stances of the system. From this beginning Hong split into two basic camps with First Five Tiger and Latter Five Tigers style. The latter style was introduced by Tie Jiao San. From him it passed to Wang Fei Hong who introduced the "Long Forearm" aspects to the art. Lin Shi Rong followed.

#24347 Long Pole -9 Point 13 Spear

One of the prize weapons of Hung Kune is the long staff. This medium sized form gives you a good taste of this special weapon. Strong and difficult movement requiring some strength. The long stick also has a number of body drops and cross-over footwork. One of the Hung style's best weapons forms.

NOTE: Due to technical problems, you may ONLY be able to get the Cantonese narration and NOT the english subtitles. They WILL play using VLC on your computer (our recommended free player for all VCDs and DVDs but, especially the tricky ones.) However, atypically, the English subtitles would not come up. They do appear using our all-region DVD player, but we feel compelled to make sure that you are aware of the problem ahead of your order.

#18034 Luo Han
Conquering the Tiger

Lin Xin himself claims lineage from Chiu Wai, the "King of Guangdong Hung Boxing". This Luo Han "Fuk Fu" is not the popular and longish one often shown as the first training in Hung. It is a short set with decided stance training problems such as fast tight turns. Instructor Lin Xin explains that, while it can improve one's Hung, it probably isn't a first level set despite its' short length. This is a "bridge" set with emphasis on forearm skills so essential to this famous southern style.

#18035 "I" Shaped Conquering The Tiger

DOUBLE DVD: Long forms are not always advanced and advanced forms are not always long. In this case the basic Hung form, Conquering the Tiger, is quite long and yet basic to the system. If you have never practiced Gongzi FukFu take it from us it is a wonderful, full bodied form with a great structure of progressive movement for beginners. In the Choy Lai Fut system, for example, they will teach the same form with stances only then re-teach it with hands AND stances. In this form separate sides of the body have long sections which are then repeated on the other side. Symmetry is encouraged by the methods are varied and interesting. Many of the movements are well constructed phrases with strong techniques that give true feeling of power and flow combined. Instructor Lin Xin, while not showing usage, gives many training tips at the end especially relating to bridge development, a foundational characteristic of the system. P. S. This is a somewhat different version from the pretty well standardized form found in the West. It is, however, obviously the same form. NOTE: This is a DOUBLE DVD.

#11491 Bridge Hand

Chiao Gong (Kiuh Gong); Bridge Work with Lin Xin (Lahm Yan)
In the old days a Kung Fu man might ask you if you had "crossed bridges" with another practitioner. This meant, plain and simple, to fight because to fight two opponents have to cross each others forearms. In this introductory two DVDS the essential "bridge work" of the title emphasizes one of Hung Gar's most famous attributes: strong bridge work. The first DVD gives many exercises and including weight work for developing this essential series of skills. The second DVD shows the Bridge Work form, a short set concentrating on bridge motions. This is broken down and explained. This is a Double DVD

#11492 Smashing Fist

Zhuang Da Chuan Johng Da Kune : Smashing Boxing (Colliding Strike Boxing)
This is a rarely seen form of the Hung Gar style. It is intermediate between the fairly simple Bridge Work and the complex Tiger/Crane. It is, to our mind, a very nice form and rather rare compared such favorites as Low Gar Kune and Gong Chi Fuk Fu. Beautifully laid out, with few kicks, many angle changes, strong bridgework and some fast hand combinations: this is a nice representative of the style.

#11493 Smashing Fist Applications

Smashing Boxing Real Applications
This is a kind of a monologue where instructor Lam Yan explains the usage of the Hung forms but without the help of a partner. He goes into a lot of detail but you should know that he strictly speaks to the camera without aid from anyone else. Nonetheless, his explanation is centered around Smashing Boxing and gives details of usage and application from that form.

#11494 Tiger and Crane Double Form

Tiger Crane Double Form Boxing
Without a doubt the most widely recognized form of the Hung Family Fist. This double VCD gives the entire form with breakdowns. This version is slightly different from some of the more widely known versions in the West. Some of the details in the breakdown give some nice extra information on the interpretation of the movements contained in this quintessential Southern Boxing form. Originated by Wong Fei Hong this form was restructured by Li Si Rong. This is a Double VCD

This branch of Southern Fist claims lineage to the famous Chinese folk hero, Wong Fei Hung (1847-1924). Son of Wong Kai Ying, one of Canton's "Ten Tigers", who himself had studied Shaolin style with deep horse stances and mixed motion some of which could be considered Southern Long Fist. A prominent feature is the verbalization of different sounds as an active ingredient of Hei Kung (Internal Power) training. These DVDs are by Chen Nian En, a fourth generation disciple of Wong Fei Hung lineage and the Chief Coach of the Brunei Wushu team.

#10871 Wong Fei Hong Routine #1

A strong, clear flavor of Hung Gar (Hong Jia). This relatively short Southern Fist form is an amalgam of Gung Ji Fuk Fu and Fu Hak with noticeable Tiger Claw, Bridge Hand, Four Level Horse and Unicorn Step moves. Sort of a Southern fist highlights boxing. There are many hand changes here and some vocalizations such as "crying out to make clouds and wind change their colors, punching to collapse the mountain."

#10872 Wong Fei Hong Routine #2

This second road is constructed mostly of the middle movements associated with the Tiger Crane Fist. Significant movements include the side stepping, the Drunken Monk moves, the spinning fists and other major Southern Boxing motions. Good, strong form with very clear lines. Also this method utilizes some of the distinct verbal sounds associated with Hong Quan.

#10875 Wong Fei Hong Yung Chun (Wing Chun)

This is a very clear presentation of the Siu Nim Dao first Wing Chun form. As a part of the Wong Fei Hung Southern Fist the movements are surprisingly true to the Yip Man standard form. No applications but pretty good camera work and extensive close ups mostly from a frontal angle.

#10878 38 Health Methods

A series of very good self massage actions broken down into three main groups. Many of these are classic Temple exercises for health maintenance. NOTE: As of this writing this particular DVD seems to have been filmed with CANTONESE (Guang Zhou Hua) narration only. This is a combination, created by Chen, of Sun and Wu Tai Chi, Six Harmony and other internal exercises.

#10879 Wong Fei Hong Buddha Fist

Fut Jia Luo Han Quan. Buddha Family Disciple Boxing. Being a Southern style there's more chance people recognize the Cantonese idiom of "Fut Gar LoHan" Boxing. Within the Wong Fei Hung branch this is the most distinctively Long Arm of all the sets. It almost resembles PiGua with special weight put on Big Opening and Big Closing. A nice looking set and a workout. Very different from some of the more Arrow Punch sets of the system. This is said to have been passed down by a Lama from Tibet to a dignitary with Nan Lin Temple in Guang Zhou.

#10880 Butterfly Knives

A very classic looking butterfly knife set. One of it's most prominent features is a little greater than usual emphasis on "hidden" or "sleeve" holding of the knives - that is to say, reverse gripped. Not a short set. Many sweeping actions, unicorn steps and Long Arm attacks.
