PiGua BOXING (Split Deflect Fist)

Demonstrator/Teacher:Guo Rui-Xiang.

This style, known throughout China, is one of the great fists. Not only is it loose, fluid, beautiful and effective but the relaxed movements are excellent for health. PiGua style blends extreme flexibility of the shoulder with Long Fist motions and a relaxed method of Fa Chin (energy issuing). Often taught hand in hand with BaJi these two compliment each other beautifully. But then again PiGua (which transformed into Monkey Fist through the centuries) has been known to "marry" many other style PiGua (Split-Deflect) style is one of the treasures of Northern Kung Fu. Very famous in China it is sparsely represented in the Western world. PiGua training emphasizes loose movements taking the eagle and the snake as its totem animals. The style has a distinct flavor, relaxed and fluid, which is beautifully represented in this staff set with wide whipping swipes and thunderous slams.

These are "basics" you are actually going to want to learn. PiGua is one of the great, big families of Northern Long Arm. In the case of PiGua (Split, Deflect) style the words "Long Arm" are literal. Movements in this style are wide, loose, beautiful and powerful. The arms are used so lightly and with such flexibility that this is often compared to a Long Armed Ape. This VCD shows the essence of PiGua's special arm waving exercises: really the most important aspect of the style. PiGua exercises can only help ANY practitioner of Chinese martial arts. Taught by top PiGua teacher: Guo Rui-Xiang.

This is a major weapon. The Miao Dao (Corn leaf knife) was one of the key weapons of soldiers during the Tang dynasty, one of China's periods of great power and influence. The original weapon was so long that Tom would carry Dick's knife and Dick would carry Tom's. At the time of battle they would draw each others knife by grabbing and stepping back then face the enemy. Much admired for its flexibility, power and handling the Miao Dao was transported to Japan where it became the bases of the Japanese Ken. Handled mostly with two hands this DOUBLE SET of VCD's explores usage as well as form.

Here is the MIAO DAO, the sword that inspired the Japanese Ken: one of the most famous weapons in the world. Developed in the Tang Dynasty (about 900), it was strictly a battlefield weapon. So long was the original instrument that each soldier carried his partner's at his side! Then they drew out their blades in tandem. Definitely an ancient and historical weapon rarely seen. By the Ming Dynasty the Record of Arms and Hands (soon to be available from Lion Books through us) already lamented how little Miao Dao was to be seen. Now you can see it. This is the SECOND level VCD on this weapon with more complicated movements and a form.
