A true long fist style. GuanZhong boxing goes back quite a ways to somewhere before the beginning of the first millennium. VCD#1744 Luo Men Gong Li Boxing
About
1 Hour, VCD pricing, Chinese/English
Luo Men style Flowing Strength Boxing.
This form is named Gong Li Quan like a very famous beginners set comparable to Tan Tui or Lien Bu Quan. This is also a small, tight form with a short series of moves. It comes from one of the “family” style of Emei. About twenty movements, this set has a surprising large range of actions with punches folding into elbows, open hand blocks, short and long move mixed, soft poses and hard strikes. An excellent set for beginners and performance in a small space, basically a square.

VCD#1742 Four Technique Hammering
About
1 Hour, VCD pricing, Chinese/English
Si Ba Chui. This is a popular form in North West China, among the five provinces. It inherits from a number of styles and blends them into an unusual form which seems to have a lot of inheritance from Xing Yi, Pigua and other styles. Truly an unusual form with some actions rarely found in other sets. Very quick, somewhat acrobatic, lower postures and a high level of shoulder flexibility.

LongFist style Yue Bu Quan
About
1 Hour, VCD pricing, Chinese/English
LEAPING BOXING: This is said to be a form well loved in the five provinces of China. Sort of a super charged Lien Bu Quan this set lives up to its name in that almost every change of stance is accompanied by a small leaping action, and sometimes not so small. A relatively easy set to learn if you are up to it, this has the advantage of many varied postures, good Northern legs with some kicks, though not an excessive number. The performance by the zaftig Zhang Jie makes it evident that she's a top competitor. We're also glad to see someone who looks to be in excess of seventy pounds performing at a high skill level. Contemporary Wushu, a decade or so ago, had devolved to where the kids on the team were the ones who, when every one raise her hand, had the longest arms and the tallest bodies. Shades of ballet audition trauma!

With
Wang DeMing. We are talking about limber here. The Long Fist as a performance
art with much training emphasizing tremendous flexibility, high
kicks and low exaggerated stances. But teacher Wang is not just
some light weight performer. Though pretty contemporary this Long
Fist training is at least clean and pretty precise. There's no taking
away for the athleticism and overall skills developed through hard
work.

FIST
About

By
Li Yu Zhong WuShu champion
One of the most expressive Monkey Fists we've seen. A champion performance
whether or not you like animal styles. An acrobatic performance
with everything from back flips and ground rolls to legs flower
on the ground. From the performance standpoint the demonstrator
is quite good with expressive, very fast motions in very simian
actions right down to the eating of the fleas. A fast fist to say
the least. Not only a demonstration and breakdown but basics of
the peculiar monkey fist such as fist and leg actions shown separately.

MONKEY STAFF
About
1 Hour, VCD pricing, Chinese/English
By
Li Yu Zhong WuShu champion
Here is Monkey Fist in its glory with teacher Li Yu Zhong showing
championship skill with the monkey's favorite weapon - the staff.
What can we say? There is a tradition of "imitative" styles
in martial arts which has become progressively more entertainment
and theatrically oriented as time goes by. On the other hand you
would need a heart of steel not to be charmed and entertained by
this lively and beautifully performed set. If you like the agility,
mischievousness and humor of the Monkey Fist this is one of the
better representatives of the style and the possibilities of the
art. Tumbling, rolling, balancing, falling, bumping along the ground.
Agility required.

By
Jiang Lu Di national champion Lecturer Nie Jiang Guo coach of Henan
Wushu Team. A contemporary WuShu version of BaGua by a champion
player who has two of the longest arms in proportion to her body
that we've seen for a long time. Some nice actions with whirling
arms. This set is demonstrated with much twisting and very agile
footsteps. Generally good movement though, from our standpoint,
not very solid grounding. Nonetheless a skillful and attractive
performance.

style SABERS
VS. SPEARS
About

By
Wang Shao Xuan, Yang Shen Gong & Wang Yong Sheng
Any three person set is frenetic in the extreme. This one's no exception.
A single player with double sabers defends himself against two opponents
each armed with a spear. Breakdowns are given, thankfully. Much
jumping, ducking and changing lanes. In sets like this you look
for what is known in WuShu circles as "jiao" or ingenuity.
The are some moments in this set where strategy is demonstrated.
As the box says: "A classic form. Primitive paired practice.
A WuShu fossil."

style SABER
AGAINST SABER
About
1 Hour, VCD pricing, Chinese/English
Broadsword vs. broadsword is one of the rarer combinations. There
are a number of weapons that are not generally matched against themselves.
This saber fight is short but furious. The actions include wide
slashing and tight grappling using the sabers with close cuts to
one another and actual tie ups were the sabers are locked together.
Learnable and a great crowd pleaser. Sharp sabers not recommended
at first.

kicking, arm swings, cross stances, cat positions etc.

style TWO
HANDED SWORD
About
1 Hour, VCD pricing, Chinese/English
The Two Handed Straight sword is a rare tool. All sets with it are
active and advanced with fast footwork and a lot of body turning
and torquing. The practitioner has to be good with a straight sword
and then compensate for the extra length. There are distinctive
moves shared by all similar sets such as holding the sword straight
up in the air above the head. Some nice moves, especially the tight
hand flowers almost against the practitioner's body and the heel-up
stance reminiscent of Monkey style. A good performance.

ZI FIST
About
1 Hour, VCD pricing, Chinese/English
By Mao Jing Guang, professional coach and judge
FANZI or Tumbling Boxing is famous throughout China as a major example
of the Northern Long Fist school. It is straight forward yet subtle.
The movements are beautiful to watch but pretty close to Northern
fighting theory. Legs are powerful and there are some unusual turnings
of the body and the hands. Overall a well balanced style with a
true Northern flavor. Fanzi, as they say, "Is like a string
of firecrackers." This performance is challenging yet learnable.
The strength of the performer is evident.
