First, be advised that all of these VCD's are IN CHINESE ONLY. In our opinion that doesn't matter much because the instruction is clear and the quality of photography very good. But we will not accept returns just because people didn't read... IN CHINESE ONLY. Given that, these are really tremendous deals for the money. Each of these special VCD's can be played on a computer for full enjoyment. Made for PC's they are also Mac compatible by downloading Quick time (for free) and any similar VCD player program. Also playable on most DVD players. For less than $10.00? Wow!

Shaolin BaFa BOXING (Eight Methods) Page Two

The Eight Methods was developed during the Qing dynasty. It combines many forms of Kung Fu and is an interesting style. Here is also the Eight Methods of the Shaolin style, a Buddhist derivative of that famous method with about a 1000 year history. It is comprised of sections such as Bafa, Swallow boxing, Black Tiger boxing and Five Tiger boxing. It was practiced in Song Shan but also ShanXi where one of the main persons during the 20th century was Ren Zheng Fang. All of this is not to even mention the incredible flexibility encompassed by the training. Of particular interest are the Iron Palm and the Body stretching VCDs.

VCD#89 Northern Style BaFa Fist (8 Methods)
About 1 Hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only

At Plum we believe that the more interested practitioners are exposed to the wide range of Kung Fu history and skills, the shorter lived will be the mediocre. We have no idea if we'll be able to sell this one, but BaFa is an interesting combination of methods. It has "married" a number of other approaches with its 8 methods such as Split, Turn, Wring. The practitioner, Wu Shi Jun, is skilled with the form resembling Cha and showing a wide range of hard and soft techniques mixed with some off-set timing resembling Canon Fist. Just at the end of this tape is a teaser demonstration of the Partner version showing that this Ba Fa set can be applied to paired practice.

VCD#1415 BaFa Double Sabers
About 1 Hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only

This set shows the double sabers as strong weapons. The emphasis of this form is on poses and chops, not twirls. Actions are stopped and held and the hacking actions are done with force and authority. At the end of the VCD a few techniques are performed in application against the spear.  Not a particularly large set and, for the weapons, is rather conservative in its footwork. Some excellent poses and movements and some less pleasing actions but solid form.

VCD#1416 Shaolin BaFa self defense
About 1 Hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only

The self defense from this style is based on the moment of attack. In almost every instance the entire body is thrown into the breach with multiple limbs performing tasks all together. Many throws, jumping hits and angular changes. This fulfils one of the important criterion we use for applications, that they demonstrate the flavor of the style shown.

VCD#1417 Five Tiger Duan Branch Spear
About 1 Hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only

There are a number of ways you can have a decent spear set. In this case we have a classical set with common and difficult movements. There is a very strong range of rolls, pokes, coiling actions and circles. The form is strong and very definite. In other words this is a good, solid spear set. What makes this VCD  unusual is that there are applications of the spear movements against another spear at the end of the disk. Overall pretty good.

VCD#1418 Five Tiger Duan Branch Saber
About 1 Hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only

When you see a form in which the postures look a little awkward, the balance a bit strained, the movements less than fluid; then look again. These sets are generally not meant to be artistic, they are - rather - collections of problems which the creators thought necessary to record. This form follows this formula with some moves that are actually very difficult due to balance point. The movements are this style are strong, forceful and definite. A particularly interesting series of applications are the end, many based on the tiger like leaping of the saber wielder and all against the spear.

VCD#1419 Shaolin BaFa Ying Gong (hard Qigong)
About 1 Hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only

Despite the incredible flexibility stunt on the cover of this VCD it is essentially about Iron Palm conditioning. Many exercises are shown and details including rubbing linement all over the hands before practice. This is a neat "throw back" VCD that looks like old Iron Palm training books. Iron fist is also shown and  many other exercises. One of these is the classic four hanging bags East, West, North South. Another is the heavy bag for kicking. Some of the palm patterns are traditional and common, others, such as the "dancing palm" are not well known.  Everything is authentic and traditional though.

VCD#1420 Swallow Boxing (Yen Xing Quan)
About 1 Hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only

This version of swallow boxing appears like Gong Li style or another Shaolin derivative such as Luo Han. The movements are strong and definite. The tempo is relatively slow. The punches, like those of Tan Tui, are restricted by precise. This is obviously a classical set. The most distinctive thing is the posture which are canted forward somewhat like Wu Tai Chi. Applications are shown at the end some basic and some rather unexpected.

VCD#1421 Four Section Practice
About 1 Hour, VCD pricing, Chinese Only

(Gong Si Duan Gong is almost the same as Shaolin TongZi Gong.)
Talk about extreme stretching exercises. Here are many famous exercises often associated with martial studies begun while the boy is young and a virgin (in other words before the bones have set). In Shaolin this is known as Tong Zi Gong. Student Wang Su Ying doesn't just bend over he puts his head through his legs. He toe kisses then lies on the ground. He lays his torso on his leg then adds weights to emphasize the move. Don't try this at home, but if you do don't tell us.
